Honor’s promise: simple as buttered toast

June 11, 2014 //  by Heather

My kids do something that drives me crazy.

I say, “Come here,” and they look me in the eye, turn, and run in the opposite direction.

They’re fast. It’s not always easy to catch up with them. And the whole point is that I don’t want to chase them. I just want them to do what I say. I want them to obey. I want them to honor me.

But let’s be honest: if you tell a kid, in that voice, to come, they might not want to obey. They might be afraid of that voice. They might see that your words have no lasso attached to them. They might know that you can’t back up your request, at least right then, and so they turn and leave you in the dust.

I’m talking about honor today at SheLoves magazine. Won’t you join me?
